Finishes

Our flooring is available in our Standard 7 Finishes. Each Job is a made to order job, so you can rest assured knowing that all the flooring you purchase will be color matched and consistent through out. If our 7 standard finishes are not what you are looking for. Please submit a sample of wood to be color matched and let our finish experts match your finish.

No. Its personal preference. As teak ages it naturally becomes a beautiful silvery patina. I you prefer your decking to look as new as possible, can use a penetrating oil twice a year to keep the teak looking its best.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) are organic chemical compounds which evaporate quickly from finishes, adhesives, solvents, etc. often emitting toxic smelling odors. This has become a “Buzz-term” recently, as buildings have become better insulated, increasing our exposure to these compounds. Low VOC finishes, such as hard wax oil and waterbased polyurethanes, are the best options to reduce VOC’s indoors.

Oil-based finishes

Standard and custom finishes are available.

“Patina” means the surface has been weathered by natural causes. “Wire Brushed” means it has been treated with a wire brush.

Engineered vs Solid Flooring

Both our solid and engineered flooring can be installed over radiant heat. The specifics of the installation are dictated by the type of radiant heating system you’re using. Give us a call to talk more about the best option for your project.

Solid floors are a full 3/4″ thick, and milled to the width you specify, at the longest lengths possible. Solid floors are best suited to installations where the floor is blind or face nailed into the subfloor, above grade. Engineered floors are either 9/16″ or 3/4″ thick overall, with a 3mm or 5 mm “wear layer” of wood, and are 2′ to 7′ in length. Engineered floors are perfect for installation over virtually any subfloor, whether concrete or conventional construction, and can also be installed below grade

Engineered floors are typically installed by floating (gluing the tongue & groove together), or by gluing the floor down to the subfloor using a polyurethane adhesive, which will allow the floor to move naturally. Solid flooring is typically nailed or stapled through the tongue, or nailed through the face on wider planks, into the subfloor below. Call us, and we can work with you to determine the best installation method for your project. Still have questions engineered and solid flooring?

Our Engineered Flooring Substrate and core are made up of Reclaimed Teak.

Engineered flooring is perfect for any dry below-grade (basement) application, or for areas where the floor needs to be floated, glued down to concrete, or placed over radiant heating systems. While solid woods can often be used in the same applications above grade, our engineered flooring is a more stable option, and it helps to increase the available yields from limited species.

Measurements

Since our material comes shipped on Pallets, Most customers that do not have a forklift or shipping dock require a lift gate for delivery. Since this is not a standard shipping request, you must notify us at time of placing the order so that we may factor in the additional freight costs for a lift gate. For more information, send us an email and we will be more than happy to explain in detail.

Generally for our Flooring, Wall Paneling, Plywood and Siding, we ship FedEx Freight Economy. For smaller orders, we ship FedEx Ground. Please inquire more at time of placing order for other options.

Depending on the flooring and quantity, we usually bundle all flooring and then palletize it for shipping. For Smaller quantities of flooring, we would bundle and wrap in cardboard for FedEx Ground Shipping.

Square footage is calculated by multiplying the length in feet by the width in feet. You’ll usually want to add another 10% for cutting and installation waste.

Tile

All Tiles are suitable for floors, walls, and ceiling applications.

All tile lines are suitable for indoor and outdoor usage. Annual maintenance will be required to sustain colors and finish.

Our reclaimed teak tiles that are resin coated are perfectly suitable for any wet/dry environments either indoors or out. When using our resin coated tiles, we do recommend using an Epoxy based grout to assure that the material stays dry.

Tiles can be set with standard Polymer- Modified Thin-Set Mortars or General use Mastick. For any other applications, please contact us and we will be more than happy to assist you with choosing the correct product for setting the tile.

Use a Wet Tile Saw to cut either our CINTA Teak Tile Collection or Modern Classic Collection Tile. If a wet tile saw is not available, a standard sliding compound miter saw with a carbide tipped blade can be used to handle most installations. When drilling, all standard woodworking bits will work just fine.

For our tile lines, we recommend using epoxy grout (floors) and epoxy adhesive(walls) with our reclaimed teak wood tile products.

Care & Maintenance

INDOTEAK DECKING MAINTENANCE

A beautiful reclaimed teak deck can be left to age to a beautiful silvery grey or if desired, regular maintenance can keep your deck looking new for years to come.

There is no need for sealants or preservatives when it comes to maintaining teak decking. With solid teak boards, it is always optional to sand or refinish depending on the condition of your deck.

When it comes to cleaning a teak deck, avoid the strong two-part acid type teak cleaners. Also avoid high-pressure cleaners. Teaks natural oils make it great to stand up to moisture and our reclaimed teak is hundreds of years old, and can last many more decades with a little care. Hard brushes or strong cleaning detergents are also a no-no for teak decks.

If you prefer teak’s natural weathering to a silvery grey shade, leave it in its natural state. This is considered the traditional way to achieve this look effortlessly. On the other hand, some homeowners prefer retaining teak’s freshly sanded color. One of the treatment options to maintain teak in its natural state is to apply traditional teak oil. We recommend products from Rubio.

Besides maintenance methods for teak decks in residential areas, there are also a couple of tips for teak-decking in boats, which are quite similar. The best way to keep your deck in top shape is by cleaning it regularly every few months with a gentle wash.

Reclaimed Flooring Care & Maintenance

Our reclaimed teak products are some of the world’s most durable and stable wood available in the world today.  We get our reclaimed teak from very old-growth material from which we create our flooring, tile, and other products.  Teak has been sought after for hundreds of years by seafarers due to its high oil and silica content.  This makes teak naturally water-resistant, making it an ideal choice for both interior and exterior applications.  Following these common sense guidelines will ensure long-term performance

Cleaning

Sweep or vacuum as needed to maintain a dirt and dust-free environment.  When deep cleaning is needed, please use below products.

  1. Surface Care Spray: by Rubio Monocoat ready to use, non-residue cleaner.
  2. Natural Soap: by Rubio Monocoat.

Restoration & Rejuvenation

Restoration or Rejuvenation is a simple process that can be carried out anytime. For most non-high traffic projects a restoration is recommended every 3-6 years. For high traffic applications we recommend every 1-3 years.

The products for this process:

  1. Refresh: by Rubio Monocoat used to restore the finish.

Spot Repairs

Monocoat Natural Oil finish bonding technology allows local touch up of damaged areas or scratches

  1. Sand the repair area as needed to remove damage and expose raw wood.
  2. Dampen the area with water. Allow to completely dry.
  3. Apply with a cotton cloth, the same color oil that was used originally to coat the floor.
  4. Let it react for 10 minutes. Wipe the excess oil off with a cloth, dampened with Monocoat Oil.

For repairing minor scratches, follow the above instructions but skip sanding.

General

  1. Do not use rubber, foam-back, or plastic mats as they may discolor the floor. To prevent slippage or area rugs, use a quality vinyl rug underlay.  Area rugs should be moved occasionally as they block sunlight, which may alter the color of the floor over time.
  2. Protect bottoms of chairs, tables, couches, cabinets, and other heavy objects with felt glides. Clean and/or replace the glides on a regular basis, as they may become embedded with dirt and grit over time.
  3. When moving heavy furniture or appliances, use extra caution to avoid scratching , indentations, and gouging. Some objects may be too heavy to be moved across a hardwood floor under any circumstance.  Certain types of casters may damage hardwood flooring.

Indoteak Design 100% FSC Reclaimed Teak Tile

ACCLIMATION: When teak tile has arrived at location of installation, reclaimed teak tile should be allowed to acclimate on location for 4-5 days prior to installation.

SUBSTRATE: This reclaimed teak tile should then be installed on a clean, sound, flat substrate. All substrate material must be dry, clean, and flat. The following substrates may be used with our teak tiles: • Fully cured concrete substrate • Cement backer board • Gypsum board (dry area only)

GROUT: Epoxy grout is our recommended choice for our reclaimed teak tiles. Due to the moisture in the adhesive during installation, our teak tiles may warp if traditional water mix adhesives are used. Please only use Epoxy based grout (floors) & epoxy adhesive(walls)

Prior to Grouting: Prior to grouting joints, after the setting adhesives is completely dry the following day. It is not recommended to set our teak tile and grout in same day. If set and grouted in same day, our teak tiles will not have a chance to acclimate during the drying process of the setting material and this may crack the grouted joints.

Grouting: Test grout on sample piece of tile to ensure that color and appearance is as desired. During application, when sponging the grout off the tile surface, a soft bristle brush is helpful to remove grout from the seams in the wood surface. If the grout is allowed to fully dry in the surface seams, it can be very difficult to remove. Our teak tile does not have to be sealed after grouting, as urethane grout does not require sealing.

Cleaning and Maintenance: CINTA™ wood tile may be regularly cleaned using, a gentle water based cleaner. (Example: BONA CLEANER) Do NOT use strong cleaners and strippers.
